Responsibilities Of A Housekeeper

A housekeeper is a person who is employed to provide professional domestic services like cleaning, laundry, and occasionally cooking and errands. Generally only wealthy households will hire full-time domestic workers like housekeepers, whereas many dual-income upper and middle class families will hire the services of a housekeeper for regular household cleaning.

General duties of a housekeeper involve vacuuming, dusting, mopping, kitchen and bathroom accessories, as well as surface cleaning. The exact duties of a housekeeper are elaborated between the employer and the housekeeper when explaining employment terms. Apart from private households, hotels, nursing homes and extensive care facilities also employ staff particularly for housekeeping.

Hiring a full-time housekeeper may include arranging a room and board apart from a weekly or monthly salary. A full-time housekeeper generally will not have any association with children in the household, but are responsible only for maintaining the house clean and orderly. A full-time housekeeper may or may not be hired to do shopping and preparing meals.

Part-time housekeepers will not work for a single household, but visit different households over the course of a week. A part-time housekeeper can work for an agency or company who appoints them with concerned clients. Households, which hire a part-time housekeeper, may seek their services weekly, biweekly, or even monthly. Generally a housekeeper serving part-time is only responsible for routine, thorough cleaning of the home.
